In the Camargue, Flamingoes are considered trashbirds.
Some of us, when we heard that flamingoes lived in the Camargue, thought of big, bright pink birds. Here's proof that there is some pink on these comical birds.
Otters were also swimming through the marshes.

There were lots of these beautiful red dragonflies everywhere.
We hiked to a blind to view the flamingoes more closely. When they fought, their back feathers would stand up. Cameron thought their squabbling was hilarious.
The Camargue is also known for its white horses. These horses are their own type (Camargue Horses) and, although they are farm animals, roam wild over the marshes.
Cameron and Margaret. Looks hot, doesn't it?
Before we went "home," we stopped at the Mediterranean Sea. The beach was very white and the water was a brilliant blue...
...and freezing. We couldn't believe that people were actually swimming in it!

What a great place to bird--I really enjoyed my visit to Camargue back in 2002. Hey, Cameron lost his teeth!! Not sure if I remember them missing from previous posts??! Yahoo!
Great pictures. I haven't looked at your site lately. Are the horses white for the same reason that the flamingoes are white?
